The Heilwald Loophole is a PS1 style horror game that takes place in a secret, evil hospital. How you got there is a mystery, but it seems that you fell through the roof of part of it. Most of the rooms are filled with rubble, and it seems like you’re just trying to find a way out at first. You eventually come across a strange part of the building that has actually been developed. Opening the door, you meet an unsuspecting doctor.
The two villains of the game are Dr. Randolph and Nurse Heideltraut. Coming across Dr. Randolph at first is a shock because he’s just waiting behind a door at the inhabited part of the building. You can follow him if you want, but you’ll see that doesn’t end so well.
He’s not too happy about you wandering off either. There’s a lot of exploring to do to get by him the right way, and he’s constantly wandering around looking for you. The game is tense the entire way through, and there’s many unique paths to getting killed.
Nurse Heideltraut is just as terrifying in the second level, especially with how loudly she walks around when she finds you. She only appears after a few specific events. Randolph’s sinister “Where are you going” dialogue was creepy enough, but hearing her stomp through the place makes you nervous to move around freely.
There’s a lot to explore, and I like how you can inspect many individual items. It’s provides a creepy, but fun atmosphere where there’s a lot to do. The PS1 style horror game genre is one of my favorites, and the PS1 graphics done here are especially well done. It’s still a demo with just 2 levels, so I hope to see more. This might be all they intended to make though, since that’s how these games are meant to be sometimes.
